A Fixture in Downtown Redwood City for Over a Century
The Fitzpatrick Building was originally constructed in 1900 to house the First National Bank of San Mateo County. At the time, First National was the only bank on the peninsula between San Jose and San Francisco, and handled the finances of numerous logging operations up and down the Coastal Range. The Bank of San Mateo County went on to help finance the reconstruction of San Francisco in the early 20th century before being acquired by Wells Fargo in the 1970’s. The building’s landmark status was conferred in 1977 along with a number of other historic storefronts in the bustling downtown area.
